Report of the concert on 9 July 2004 on Het Vrijthof in Maastricht

Returned only a few hours from Italy, Marjolijn drives on Thursday morning to Maastricht to get hold of some leaflets et cetera for the members of the fan club. At that moment it's still beautiful weather…
Podium Willeke arrives in the pouring rain on Friday morning, the always overcrowded sidewalk restaurants on the Vrijthof are deserted now.
The weather forecast doesn't predict any good for the rest of the day. We spend the day shopping under a large umbrella. All restaurants are overcrowded, but nevertheless we find an excellent place to take luncheon.

We're expecting Alessandro around six o'clock for his sound check and we walk through ever pouring rain to the entrance gate to wait for him.
Then a miracle happens!
Simultaneously with the arrival of the car with our friend at the entrance, the sky breaks open and the heavy clouds yield their place for the sun. The security officer at the entrance gate is not yet notified of our coming and initially - Alessandro... and correctly - doesn't give us permission to pass. Alessandro, meanwhile out of sight and arrived at the stage, returns and his: "What's keeping you?" changes the situation immediately.

Glenn and Guido & his orchestra are already busy with all preparations for the concert. Alessandro takes time to chat away cosily with us. There's time enough time to hand over our photo and video material, fan mail and gifts from fan club members who will attend the Vrijthof concert too.

Mentioned fan club members are very lucky! The organization needs the blue sailcloth that covered the fences the whole week, to keep some already wiped dry chairs, not covered by the tribune, dry. It's great fun, due to this, our present members will be able to enjoy the sound check too!

Alessandro... It's time for Alessandro to enter the stage. During the tones of his 'Funiculí funiculá' we label the plastic bags which keep the chairs on the first rows dry with our fan club logos.

At half past seven the sound is found to be in order. Alessandro leaves to his hotel to prepare quietly for the concert. We're having a quick dinner and return immediately after to the theatre to check our logos. The right decision: when we arrive people are already busy taken of the plastic from the chairs… Accidentally including logos!
Okay, we dig our heels in and supply the seats again with our Safinafanclub logo!

Alessandro... When the gates open for the public everybody comes rushing up to the first rows… Alas, these places are reserved!

Besides our members we also expect some friends of the Génoten company and their partners. We're very happy to be able to do something in return for the sympathetic organization of the Doolhof concerts! Federico is also glad to see them; he comes from behind the stage to say a warm hello to all of them.

It's ten o'clock and still dry!
The first wonderful tones of Guido's orchestra sound over the Vrijthof. Wendy Kokkelkoren, his permanent solo singer, performs with some very fine songs. The combination of the music of Guido's orchestra and Wendy's 'Caldo', 'Atlantis' and 'Together' makes us decide to buy their album at the end of the concert. Something we were already planning to do after the Max Proms concert in December.

Alessandro... It's already dark when Alessandro, accompanied by Glenn, enters the stage. He likes to have contact with his audience and reacts immediately with an "I can't see you". Willeke waves elatedly with a small light that she took along and yells "We're here!" She succeeds in drawing his attention, a "Ciao Willek" is her reward. A few minutes later, when only a soft beam of rays brushes against one of the Génoten, his enthusiastic "Ciao Jan" can be heard.

Our Italian tenor sings, as always - the yet presently - stars from heaven. According to us it's a perfect combination: Alessandro, Glenn and Guido & his orchestra!

We can hardly stay on our chairs when Wendy and Alessandro perform 'Funiculi Funicula' together. Kelly ter Horst has come as well with Glenn and her 'Only you' announces Alessandro's bestseller 'Luna'.

Much to soon it's time again for the Grande Finale. 'Funiculi Funicula' of the whole performing group together resounds throughout the Vrijthof and the audience rises to join in the catching song, that in the end fades into a standing ovation.
Alessandro & Wendy As always after a concert there's a beautiful bouquet of flowers for every performer. Safinafan Wilma is standing right at the bottom of the stage where Alessandro is standing and reaches him a box of delicious bonbons. As a thank you gift she receives Alessandro's flowers. A few moments later we can make a picture of a radiating Wilma… so now she has another very nice memento of this wonderful evening!

It's almost one o'clock, but the Italian restaurant nearby has set a table for Alessandro and Federico. After all they have to eat after a concert… Together with them and some others invitees we enjoy ourselves for quite a good while. We can look back upon a summer full of very successful concerts in the Netherlands. Early next morning the guys will fly back to Italy for a TV shooting. For the moment we say goodbye to each other… Time has come for a holiday for Alessandro and Federico.

The next morning we again do a little shopping in the always enjoyable Maastricht. Then we have to face the fact… We also have to go back home!

A next concert is not yet scheduled, but something else is… and every Safinafan will be able to enjoy it.

Ancora grazie infinite, Alessandro!
