Report of Concert by the Sea, 4 July 2008, Scheveningen

Poster The weather was beautiful so we could sit outside on a terrace near the beach and waited there until the sound check started. Petra Berger was the first who did a sound check so we enjoyed that too. Around 10 pas 5 Alessandro came down the stairs from the Kurhaus and walked to the stage. We welcomed him warmly! When he came on the stage he liked it very much that his fans were standing there.

Alessandro He started to sing and we took one picture after another. Suddenly Alessandro was looking for something and yes, he found it….. his mobile phone. And then he started to make pictures of us! What a laugh! We waved and sent him butterfly kisses! We had lots of fun. He complained a little bit that it was such warm weather but I yelled to him that he mustn’t complain because the last time he was here the concert was cancelled because of the bad weather. He laughed at me. In an interview later that afternoon he said that it looked like he was in Sicily instead of Nederland!

Alessandro & Petra After the sound check we gave him some gifts and after that he had to go because he had to give an interview and take some pictures. We could follow it all because the interview was on the terrace of the Kurhaus. Alessandro leaning against a statue, Alessandro at the edge of the terrace, Alessandro on the stairs! Really nice to see that!
For those who were hungry, you could sit on several terraces and eat a special Alessandro Safina dinner!

At 20.30 hr the concert started and the presenter Kristina Bozilovic announced the Exclusive Strings on stage. 4 young ladies who combined classic music with pop with their violins and modern bass. After that Petra Berger entered the stage and sang a half hour full of passion. When she was ready she announced that Alessandro arrived and was ready to sing. And that she knew that the fan club was waiting for him! Alessandro

It was around half past nine and it was still beautiful weather, when Alessandro entered the stage. He was welcomed with a big applause and he greeted us with a big smile and butterfly kiss! He started with the wonderful song ‘Incanto’ After this song he told us that he loved it to be back in Nederland and he thanked his fans for their support during the years. Nederland has a special place in his heart because his career started over here. Then he sang ‘Il Mondo’ and ‘Sognami’. Then he sang ‘Venezia al Tramonto’, ‘Venezia at sunrise’ while the sun was going under, wonderful! Petra Berger entered the stage again and together they sang the duet ‘Life goes on’ and the wonderful ‘All I ask of you’. Alessandro

In between the songs he made jokes and laughed at us, very funny to be so close to the stage. Alessandro sang a few songs alone, ‘Luna’, ‘Del Perduto Amore’, ‘Parla mi piu piano’ ‘Il nostro concerto’, ‘Al di la’ en ‘Santa Lucia’. The microphone wasn’t ok and didn’t work properly for a few times. Alessandro didn’t like that and he called a technician to fix the problem. He made a joke of it and sang even better after this.

Alessandro & Petra Petra Berger entered for the last time the stage and she sang together with Alessandro ‘The Prayer’, we all got goose bumps. After this song Alessandro pretended that they were going to sing the last song of the evening…. ‘Time to say goodbye’. We all started to shout Nooooooo, not yet the last song! He laughed! During this song the organisation shot a kind of cannonball with all silver paper chips in the air! We were a little bit shocked by this booming end!

At the end of this song they received a big applause from the people and flowers from the organisation. But Alessandro didn’t want to leave the stage, so he gave an encore. And which song he asked us…. It was ‘O Surdato ‘nnamorato’. Then there wasn’t any sheet music left over but we yelled that we wanted to hear another song and if possible ‘Funiculi Funicula’.

Fortunately the piano player Walter Bertolo started the song and Alessandro sang with lots of passion ‘Funiculi Funicula’. We all went a little bit crazy! During this song he pointed the microphone to the audience and we had to sing with him, really funny! There wasn’t a better ending of the evening.

There were no real fire works but Alessandro’s performance ended with a big bang!
